After a series of social media posts hinting at it, Italian supercar-maker Lamborghini has finally announced its first NFT (non-fungible token) project. It's called Space Key and developed in collaboration with an unknown artist and built on a piece of advanced carbon fiber composite material that was delivered to the International Space Station for research purposes.

The new initiative - named the Space Key - is a piece of art created in collaboration with an unidentified artist. The one-of-a-kind NFT is a tangible item that has a link to exclusive digital artwork that can be accessed via a QR code that is located on the back. The project is a limited edition and will be auctioned off within the coming weeks.
The Space Key is made from a carbon fiber composite material which Lamborghini shipped to the International Space Station in 2019 as part of research project. The carbon fiber was crafted into a unique artwork after it returned to Earth. The physical element has an NFT serial code that ties to the digital artwork through a QR code located on the back.

The NFT was developed in collaboration with a mysterious artist and will be auctioned in a few short weeks. Its core is made of the most advanced carbon fiber composite material, which was shipped to the International Space Station in 2019 as part a research project. Carbon fiber was 3D-printed for the base of every Space Key. Each Space Key is linked to an exclusive, digital artwork via a QR code. Only five Space Keys have been produced.

The Space Key is a collection of five physical items that unlocks a unique digital artwork by a yet to be identified artist. Created in collaboration with NFT PRO(tm) the 'collector's piece' is limited to five units and will be auctioned off shortly.
The core of each Space Key is a block made of the most advanced carbon fire composite material, which was sent to the International Space Station in 2019 as part of a research project. After returning to Earth it was imprinted with the QR code which links it to the digital element of the Space Key.
Each of the five Space Keys features a different moment that takes place at different times as the Lamborghini Ultimae takes off towards the stars. Each of five images was shot by photographer Fabian Oefner and contains over 600 million pixels.
Oefner used an inflatable camera equipped with a lens to capture the individual images, which were later put together into the final image. The result is an out-of-this world photo that captures the beauty of Earth and the futuristic, hyper-realistic look of the car rising away from it. The Space Keys will be auctioned off in the near future, however the exact date and location of the event hasn't been confirmed yet.
The auction

The auctions will run from February 1 through February 4. TheKeyLab will last for 75 hours and 50 mins - the amount of time it took Apollo 11 for him to leave Earth and enter the Lunar orbit. The five NFTs can be purchased by making an online registration. Each NFT will be sold individually and the winner will receive an original digital artwork created by world-renowned photographer Fabian Oefner that captures five different moments that the Space Key experienced during its journey through space.
